In our organization, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is Used for dev and source control servers, and workstations used as client development machines

Pros

  • security patches
  • consistent release schedules
  • well tested

Cons

  • better desktop
  • more warning on deprecated features
  • more built-in drivers and middleware for popular 3rd party stuff
  • customers respect it as an embedded OS
  • we can complete security requirements faster
  • long support lifecycle lets us support our products longer
