Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (self-managed)

Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat OpenShift

We use OpenShift to host different application types, from network functions to general IT functions (front and back end, web servers and databases). OpenShift and its integration with other Red Hat products like Advanced Cluster Management helps, in my particular case, to provide a flexible and reliable Kubernetes platform for Multi-access Edge Computing applications.
  • Flexible configuration
  • Support to CNCF projects
  • Security life-cycle
  • Evolution of the CNI (OVN) towards SRv6 support
  • Improve multi-tenancy with better ways to isolate different tenants
  • Availability of managed OpenShift service on GCP (like ROSA on AWS)
  • Positive impact on 5G deployment
  • Positive impact on Multi-access Edge Computing
  • Positive impact on containerization of IT applications
We use Red Hat ACM to deploy and manage OpenShift clusters

Do you think Red Hat OpenShift delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Red Hat OpenShift's feature set?

Yes

Did Red Hat OpenShift live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Red Hat OpenShift go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Red Hat OpenShift again?

Yes

It's well suited to containerize applications running on baremetal or VMs like the migration of VNFs to CNFs in a Communication services provider. It's also well suited for hybrid-cloud workloads that need a common control plane between both Public and Private Cloud. It's less suited for greenfield (purely) cloud applications that can leverage native cloud services (like ECS or EKS in AWS, AKS in Azure or GKE in GCP).
