Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (self-managed)

Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat OpenShift

We use OpenShift to reduce our applications' overall infrastructure and support footprint.

Pros

  • Resiliency of applications.

Cons

  • Documentation could be improved.
  • installation on bare metal is painful.
  • It has caused a long period of additional toil as support and developers struggle to grasp the new technology.
  • It has allowed us to reduce our infrastructure footprint by converting VMs to containers.
Currently, our agility has not increased much due to some groups lagging. But we can see the improvements on the horizon.
HPAs are quick and responsive. Machine Autoscaler, however, is incredibly slow on VMware, so it's not useful to us.

Do you think Red Hat OpenShift delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Red Hat OpenShift's feature set?

Yes

Did Red Hat OpenShift live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Red Hat OpenShift go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Red Hat OpenShift again?

Yes

It is a great tool for mature organizations. If you have application pipelines, experienced staff, and business investment, then OpenShift can be a big value. However, the skills needed to support container orchestration are difficult to find, so you need to prioritize talent acquisition and retention.
