It is a useful platform that can help in your journey from VM's to containers. You host both in the same cluster and migrate the apps one by one. For us it is a crucial platform that allowed to do such a migration and also open new opportunities for new applications.

Our new project that involves architectures changes fro the company portal relies a lot on the OpenShift and its integration capabilities between development environments and the production one.
We are currently using it only on-premises.
It is better from the point of view of costs, but also provides a better management and extended features.
