Overall Satisfaction with RES One Suite

RES One Suite is being used for:

  • Replacing slow GPO user management, replacing scripts for drive and printer mapping, user provisioning/auto-configuration of applications for first-time usage.
  • Synchronizing files to file shares and local to devices, adjusting default configuration state of applications for users.
  • Locking down processes allowed to run and subprocesses allowed to be spawned from root processes. Blacklisting and whitelisting of applications.
  • Locking down the networks that applications are allowed to access (and users). Usage tracking for application and licensing for purposes of reporting.
  • User password reset. User self-service portal for requesting resources or opening/closing tickets.

Pros

  • Managing user persona, capturing and applying a user's custom or specific persona when roaming or having devices replaced if storing settings in a central location.
  • Replacing GPO management for applications and users to speed up log in times.
  • Integrating with alternative tools such as Citrix, VMware, LANDESK (configuration management) and other application virtualization tools to ensure user persona or centrally manage a secure access environment.

Cons

  • Blacklisting/Whitelisting could benefit from a more centralized approach and automated way of tracking applications that get blocked so as to lessen the burden on users and administrators.
  • Support for multiple domains or environments, centralized management.
  • More intelligent reporting and easier reporting - means redoing the database structure and way things are stored (re-architecting solution).
  • Improved license management for disparate devices and a way for accessing mobile devices that aren't on the network for relay servers communications frequently (within grace period).
  • Centralized management for user experience and files.
  • Improved logon speeds.
  • User configuration automation, enabling day-one productivity.
The RES ONE Suite is a swiss army knife when compared to a lot of the user persona management tools. This means you can find a much more complete view of managing users and how their systems allow them to interact in your environment.
It is very well suited for environments where users move/roam between systems such as VDI, hosted shared servers, or where immutable systems are in place (mandatory profiles or desired state systems).

Using RES One Suite

6 - Consultants, implementing the RES ONE Suite for customers
6 - Microsoft operating systems, Active Directory, SQL, virtualization, scripting and GPO management are the primary skills to have knowledge of to be able to begin using the RES suite.
  • Onboarding
  • User Environment VIrtualization
  • Data Security and recovery
  • Invalidating access to applications when users are no longer on the network (leave the LAN/WAN network).
  • Ordering a taxi through the self-service portal (requesting a time and place via portal for a business admin to then place with the company transportation service).
  • Automatic printer mapping based upon user/device location and security level.
  • Enable the automated removal of permissions and resources when employees leave the company or transition roles.
The tool is integral to how business is done by end users, thus it's imperative to keep the solution around. Not to mention the business leverages the experience to assist clients with building out the solution for their needs.

Evaluating RES One Suite and Competitors

Yes - Citrix User Profile Manager. The UPM solution is basically a way of redirecting persona for a user, there are no granular controls to improve the user experience, nor are there ways to manage the users' stored configurations which means no easy way to remove corrupt profile settings without typically deleting the whole stored profile which means the user has to reconfigure their custom settings.
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Prior Experience with the Product
Being able to replace multiple solutions or tools and centralize management. This means being able to enable admin to manage how users are managed from a single console instead of through GPO, scripts, additional deployment tools or having to customize installations of applications through MSI tools or other methods.
I would spend more time with the competitors in the market. The issue in most cases though is that there isn't a direct solution comparable, some vendors offer tools that match 80% of the RES ONE Suite, but then you need to add another tool to complete the suite comparison.

RES One Suite Implementation

The implementation is typcially pretty simple on a flat active directly and non-DMZ based environment. Once things become more complex it is imperative to move slowly and test frequently with UAT groups and engineers.
  • Implemented in-house
Working for a professional services company, iAccess Inc., we implemented our own service but of course assist a multitude of businesses across the United States to utilize the solution.
Yes - There is always a need to discover what is in the environment to ensure integration and knowledge of expected solution definition is appropriate, designing the solution so the infrastructure is sized according to the company requirements for usage (users, systems) and developing customized implementations to solve the most critical needs of the business.
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
  • Improperly managing the deployment of the agent by clients which is very powerful as it contains filter drivers which if enabled too soon could lock users out of their systems

RES One Suite Support

Fast, knowledgeable resources that are courteous and want to help solve your problem the right way. Often offering some training so that you can better understand something that you're not as familiar with or that may not directly be an issue with the product!
ProsCons
Quick Resolution

Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
No escalation required
Immediate help available
Support understands my problem
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
None
Yes - I would say they it was resolved in a rather fast manner in comparison to other vendors I've worked with in the past that would be considered much larger in the market.
During an initial deployment for a large client there was some interest in improving integration with another vendors configuration deployment tool. A request was made to enhance the experience with large deployments and lists. RES put developers on the request and delivered a service release for the product including the desired functionality.

Using RES One Suite

The vast majority of features are very easily deployed, managed, maintained or adjusted with minimal effort. Some portions of the suite require some advanced experience to "massage" just right to be smooth and accessible for users or lower level administrators such as the integration of other tools in the environment or scaling the solution to meet the demands or complexity of very large enterprise environments.
ProsCons
Like to use
Relatively simple
Easy to use
Well integrated
Consistent
Convenient
Feel confident using
Requires technical support
Lots to learn
  • Drive mapping with specific user and environment variables to ensure the security of data is ensured
  • Managing the whitelisting of applications, the ability to easily digest file hashes and search for information
Yes - This interface for for the store service of the suite only. It is quite user friendly, available for iOS and Android and capable of all sorts of administrator defined services to enable users or admin to complete tasks or requests with little to no overhead or other involvement of teams
