Overall Satisfaction with SAP Ariba

In-direct material purchases. Direct materials are procured thru S4. Major assumptions regarding vendor participation in the Ariba network are hinderances for small firms. More attention is needed to enhance/entice small and local vendors that support manufacturing facilities

Pros

Cons

  • PO exception processing
  • Freight and Tariffs included on Purchase Orders
  • Rigid structure and standard processing
  • Secure payment structure
  • Proven tech - Industry standard
  • - No net savings...time transfer shifted from the lowest level process to higher compensated supervisors & approvers. Low level AP processers eliminated, hidden micro factories established to learn the process and keep transactions flowing.
  • + SOX compliance and Risk Management
Good but not great for my industry and vendor group. Small firms have a significant lift to effectively comply and participate in Ariba.

To be efficient, you must use the system daily...way too many nuances to remember for casual users to be efficient AND requires vendors to be consistent and specific in their invoicing (that's a big ask when they have few Ariba clients.
