Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform

We used SAP Business Technology Platform for mainly two goals;
Integration: For SFSF and other integrations
Extension: We used the extension suite to develop apps and services like SAP Process Automation, etc.

Pros

  • Extensions for SAP Products
  • Application Build (Especially for LCNC)

  • Pricing is very complicated and confusing
  • Trials are usually really nice but sometimes also confusing
  • Documentation can be improved

Overall, SAP Business Technology Platform is a really good platform. We did a lot of integrations and app extensions in BTP in the past. Last year, we built a platform to track Innovations using the following services of SAP Business Technology Platform for one of our customers;
  1. Portal/Launchpad
  2. Workflow Management
  3. Custom Domain
It was integrated with the ECC. It was a very powerful and nice platform, so App Build-Extend capabilities of SAP Business Technology Platform is quite nice.
Overall, the support is fine. But sometimes, it is not easy to reach out to the experts. Also, in some cases, documentations are not well prepared, not like ERP, if you compare.
Similarly, also used MS Azure. If you compare, both have pros and cons. I think it really depends on the scenario to choose the right platform.

I think SAP Business Technology Platform is especially best suited and even crucial for scenarios where we need to keep the core clean and move most of the developments to the cloud and in the meantime integrate them via core ERP.
Especially for topics like Internet of Things or Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning etc. compared to other platforms, there is room to improve.
