Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform

My expertise is Identity and user management security, so I mainly live within Cloud Identity Services. SAP Business Technology Platform, particularly IAG, has solved a lot of issues I've seen across other companies in my experience with managing user information and RBAC, as well as syncing cross-application. It has made user boarding a lot more seamless.

Pros

  • Associating a user across multiple environments.
  • Segregating environments for building and coordinating development to release.
  • Managing access and authorizations to be secure and controlled.

Cons

  • For IAG, if there are multiple roles it can be overwhelming from an UX standpoint.
  • Controlling and identifying shadow user creation is not as intuitive.
  • Unlocking admin rights to an environment seems very easy if having elevated permissions, this seems like something that should have more controls rather than being able to unlock admin rights yourself.
  • As we are on public cloud, we haven't had many break issues due to being standardized.
  • Project management and expectations working with developers has been overwhelmingly positive and improved.
  • Improved connectivity with us migrating to other SAP products and easier/more mainstream integration methods.
From what I've seen in our current migration to S/4HANA, in comparison to other companies that did not utilize SAP, this has been the least stressful migration or platform I have used and is highly organized and standardized. It has been a breath of fresh air coming from mostly custom-made applications and ERP systems into SAP that utilizes best practices and so many options and ease of integration. It's sustainable in the current tech as compared to what I've come from.
Whenever we've had issues with SAP Business Technology Platform or other SAP products, such as SAP for Me, Support has always been prompt and helpful in having issues resolved quickly or providing support with our questions/escalations.

If using other applications or products within SAP, it is a no brainier to have SAP Business Technology Platform available to be able to create apps and create new ways to support the business. I feel like it is most suitable in my scenario from a user access management standpoint as a user access management tool that is simple to use and understand, and there are a lot of resources to guide through the process and how it is used.
