Overall Satisfaction with SAP HANA

We build and sell a data analytics as a service platform (DAaaS) for managing energy asset investments. HANA is the back end database for hosting all our customer asset data. It provides a one stop solution for data storage and management and it interfaces naturally with other SAP products that we use for developing the front end of our product.

Pros

  • HANA is available in the cloud, so we don't have to manage our own servers.
  • HANA is stable and responsive.
  • HANA has many flexible interfaces.

Cons

  • HANA comes in many versions, it is sometimes confusing to keep track of which one you are using.
  • HANA has a positive ROI, it is essential to our product!
Yes, this feature is central to our product. We present real-time data and analytics showing the up to date technical and financial performance of energy assets, as well as projections into the future.
We use relational data, so this feature is not that important for us.
Yes, this feature allows for rapid and responsive data visualizations, giving a smooth and comfortable user experience.
The support portal is fairly easy to navigate and always available. Sometimes I can find what I need by just reading the documentation or SAP community blog posts. If I have to open a ticket I have always had good quality service and the issue was eventually resolved. The support could be improved by providing faster responses.

HANA is useful for big data applications, and as a back-end for web browser based applications. It is a powerful and flexible solution that offers many options for customization and options for expert users, while also having simple user interface options for average business users. But if a use-case is rather simple then HANA may be excessive and a simpler database can be used.
