Overall Satisfaction with SAP Master Data Governance

We use SAP MDG to centrally manage our key master data like company codes, gl accounts, cost centers, profit centers, customers, etc.

Pros

  • Central Data Maintenance
  • Segregation of Duties (SOX)
  • Workflows

Cons

  • Doesn't support the full enterprise config
  • Customizing for custom objects is very cumbersome
  • The look & feel is different from other applications like S/4HANA or Fiori
  • Harmonize master data across SAP and non-SAP systems
  • Separate system requires additional servers for no good reason
Itego (https://blogs.sap.com/2022/10/14/itego-master-data-framework-mdf-for-reference-data-and-custom-objec...)
SAP MDG doesn't cover the full spectrum of the enterprise architecture and has to be completed by add-ons like Itego
In a lot of cases, the SAP MDG support response was "this data element is not supported by MDG"
We had to build a number of custom API or integrations or RPA connectors to include MDG in our master data maintenance process.
SAP MDG has a different look & feel from S/4HANA or Fiori

Do you think SAP Master Data Governance delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with SAP Master Data Governance's feature set?

No

Did SAP Master Data Governance live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of SAP Master Data Governance go as expected?

No

Would you buy SAP Master Data Governance again?

Yes

SAP MDG is a must-have component for any SAP S/4HANA implementation. However, nobody enjoys using it. We had to purchase and implement an add-on (Itego Master Data Framework) to complete the coverage of the enterprise structure.

There is hardly any cross-domain MDM solution that covers all master data domains and all possible fields and attributes. However, SAP Master Data Governance comes with rich out-of-the-box content and business logic for various master data domains and provides a no-code/low-code framework that enables organizations to extend the models in use or build custom objects on their own. The fact that there is also an SAP Partner add-on available makes it even more attractive.
