Overall Satisfaction with SAP S/4HANA Cloud
I use it to model financial performance for capital projects and manage consolidations across subsidiaries. On the daily, I see real time variances and push alerts to project managers directly
Pros
- We run multiple subsidiaries across states, each with different regulatory reporting calendars. The SAP engine consolidates the revenue and expenses almost instantly. I'm still fascinated with this feature today same way I was 4 years ago
Cons
- I attempted tailoring our FERC reporting output a couple of times with no success. Good thing we have partners from Deloitte to help out but I still wish I was able to customize the templates myself
- During a wind farm expansion project , I caught a $4m cost overrun early because procurement data was feeding directly into variance analysis. This one move got me a promotion
- On the negative, the cost of relying on partners for integrations has been significant
- Integration with Other Systems
In our industry, financial models do not exist in isolation. They depend on procurement data, SCADA fuel usage needs and regulatory reporting frameworks. SAP allows us to connect these directly
I haven't explored these enough to comment on them at the moment, Maybe in a couple months

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Feature Ratings
Using SAP S/4HANA Cloud
200 - From my side in finance, it's pretty much engraved within the bulk of our operations. Everything from month-end close, joint venture accounting, Capex planning, you name it.
8 - It's a mix of finance system analysts, some data guys and integration specialists who handle its connection with other systems like Ariba. Most of us wear multiple hats. That said we don't go at it alone. We work closely with Accenture for the large projects
- financial consolidation and reporting from our multiple subsidiaries and joint ventures
- Project cost management
- Supply chain visibility
- Using it for scenario modeling in M&A evaluations which we never planned for initially. I can't speak of the specifics because of my NDA
- One area I've been advocating for is predictive maintenance of our assets tied directly to financial impact
