Overall Satisfaction with Snow License Manager

We use Snow License Manager to monitor our license positions and keep track of obsolete licenses, to search for hardware specifications, to see who is using which hardware and how often applications are being used. It is a major tool for us to discuss the used licenses and the need for end users to use specific licenses.

Pros

  • Monitor used software
  • Discover used hardware
  • Report license compliancy

Cons

  • Building OS agents via Snow License Manager instead of requesting them via support
  • Detecting roaming licenses from for instance Flexera
  • License compliance reporting
  • Software detection
  • Hardware detection
  • User detection
  • It helped us get de actual needed licenses visible, helping costs decrease
  • It helped us reporting our license position to software manufacturers
Deployment is very easy with a software deplotment tool like Ivanti Automation of Microsoft Intune. It is just one MSI with default parameters and after installation it will report (of course, if correct configured). Upgrade if needed can be done from within the SMACC tool.
Snow License Manager works together with standard hardware and software. It can be a on-prem solution based on a Windows Server installation and a Microsoft SQL database, but it is also available as a SaaS (Software as a Service) solution. The hardware and software specifications for an on-prem solution are reasonable.

Do you think Snow License Manager delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Snow License Manager's feature set?

Yes

Did Snow License Manager live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Snow License Manager go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Snow License Manager again?

Yes

It takes a lot of work and communication, but Snow License Manager helps by making end users aware of their software usage and license needs. It also protects the business for license claims because invalid software can be removed as soon as they are being detected. It also helps when software companies do an audit since Snow License Manager supplies reporting accepted bij for instance Microsoft of Adobe.

Using Snow License Manager

6 - IT users use Snow solely for Software Licensing Management and some Business users use Snow for reporting and inventorying. The IT needs are focusing on how to get and keep the licensing compliant and costs within budget, whereas the Business needs focus on getting clear who uses which software and for what.

A pleasant side effect is that Snow License Manager als inventories hardware in use, so that can also be used in reporting.
3 - We do run Snow License Manager and the supporting services on one server and the two Snow databases on a dedicated SQL Server farm. To support Snow License Manager users regular updates are necessary and knowledge of the OS and SQL will come in handy. Updates normally just run fine, but to be sure a consistent SQL backup and a corrresponding VM snapshot are made before update.
  • License compliance
  • Shadow IT (cloud)
  • Hardware inventory
  • Hardware inventory
  • Cost savings on licenses
  • Reporting on actual usage of licenses
Snow License Manager is an integrated part of our Licensing Compliance software solution. It does help us manage current license needs and actual license usage, as well as inventory shadow IT usage. The nice side effect of being able to see hardware specifications and keeping track of hardware usage by users is a bonus!

I did not buy premium support. When we started with Snow, more than 9 years ago, the support level offered was sufficient and it still is.
Yes - It took some time because it required a bit strange workaround, but in the end is was solved. It took some weeks to solve it, but since that time, i think 5-6 years ago, i have not had a problem like that again.
No, the support is as it should be; good solutions, fast reply
