Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Device Monitor
We use SolarWinds to monitor over 250 locations and several thousand devices. We use the product to monitor our networks and produce a variety of actionable alerts for our internal IT staff. The visibility gained provides assurance regarding status and monitored events, reducing IT response time to events and MTTR.
- Monitoring Up/Down status
- Monitoring for key events
- Delivering visibility to our IT engineers, across the enterprise
- Performance can be slow
- Agents on hosts can be problematic (inexplicable high cpu usage)
- Interface/GUI could be improved
- Relative ease of use
- Price/Performance is favorable
- Ubiquitous knowledge by IT employees and our partners (most people are familiar with and have used SW already).
- Keeps our relative investment low enough to easily afford in an industry that's very cost sensitive.
- Extended visibility outside of our network operations team to include other IT groups with a strong interest in overall status and issue resolution.
- Easy to bring along new hires as most already have at least base level, functional experience with SW.
For the purposes we use SolarwWnds, we get the functionality we need at a favorable price point. Additionally, we have easy adoption by our staff and any consultants we work with due to existing familiarity and/or experience with the product which brings some added efficiency to our onboarding process or project engagements.
