Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Device Monitor
We use it for monitoring each of the nodes in our environment, including premise as well as the cloud. I monitor the various MSSQLSERVER instances as well as monitor alerts (e.g., access failure). We need to have our various databases available for students and faculty with as little downtime as possible. We have over 100 nodes and close to 200 databases.
Pros
- Notifications when servers are in a critical or other status
- Color coded - easy to identify problems
- Drill down capability to look deeper into the current status
Cons
- I'm happy with the experience to date and have no recommendations at this time
- Infrastructure
- Networking
- Ease of use
- I was not involved in any ROI evaluation so I cannot assist in this question
- Ease of training new staff in using
It was not a direct comparison, but I used Splunk Enterprise in previous employment to pull XML traffic to identify issues, and I was very impressed with Splunk Enterprise. I can only assume that the newer versions of Splunk Enterprise will exceed my expectations. This is more of an apple and orange comparison.
