Overall Satisfaction with Barracuda Cloud Archive (Sonian)

Sonian Archiving was previously used across the organisation for our email archiving needs.

Sonian is simple, intuitive and easy to set up. However, it’s lacking in some areas in terms of the level of functionality which some of its competitors can offer. However, Sonian has a healthy roadmap for 2017 which addresses these gaps and if done well, could make their product market leading.

Pros

  • Sonian search is rightly praised for ease of use, scale, performance and accuracy.
  • Sonian archive can be deployed rapidly without the need for costly professional service engagements.
  • Seamless process to import PST files into the archive.
  • Sonian has a high focus on compliance and governance which is reflected with their fast and accurate search function.

Cons

  • It's not possible to integrate the Sonian archive with Outlook. The outlook add-in allows users to quickly retrieve items that have been archived, directly from their Outlook client.
  • Sonian does not currently offer email management systems such as Email continuity, spam protection etc., which you can get through other archiving suppliers as an all-in-one bundled solution with email archiving included.
  • We saw a significant reduction in storage of email data that was previously stored in PST files on local machines.
  • We can archive data for longer periods, which drives retention and email data storage needs.
  • This product gives us quick access and support for eDiscovery requests from legal departments.
Sonian is a pure SaaS solution and is easy to manage and use. It's cost effective and does exactly what it says on the tin.
It's a great product for archiving emails but I believe it could expand its features to make it more competitive.

The search capability really stands out for me, particularly at an administrator level. It reduces time and effort by allowing you to quickly find and access data.
