Overall Satisfaction with SonicWall TZ

We have a pair of SonicWall TZ working in a HA configuration - these are running our production, telephony, guest and maintenance vlans. With full DPI, SSO and Capture ATP activate and fully integrated with our on prem AD. This allows full minitoring and scanning of all our traffic with minimal overheads being noticed

Pros

  • DPI Inspection
  • Capture ATP - Almost invisibly monitors files downloaded
  • New improved user interaface
  • Simple rule management

Cons

  • Some logs are hard to find and understand
  • VOIP setup can be difficult
  • SSO agents when they fail can be hard to troubleshoot
  • Has reduced downtime for updates
  • Alterted us to several VPN attacks - over 50 since install allowing us to take relevant action
  • HA saved us over 7 days downtime when a power spike damaged the main unit
Overall the new interface is very logical and easy to navigate. We did struggle at first coming from the older interface and finding our way around the new. But our new users found it very simple to find what they were looking for. One negative we do all struggle with is packet cpature not always being clear how its set/what is being monitored. this could do with more information on teh intial page instead of having to look for it
We found SonicWall TZ licencing to be far simpler than barracuda options for the use cases we needed. We have run several other barracuda products andover time have swithced away fro other offerings - mostly due to the ease of use of the GUI. We also had much better support through our resller and support from SonicWall TZ when issues occured

Bitdefender GravityZone, Bitdefender Managed Detection and Response (MDR), Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows
SonicWall TZ has been an almost perfect fit on pur enviroment - with the ability to to have a HA pair that keep in sync almost live it has enabled us to perform update tasks, configuration changes etc.. while our production enviroment has been live. Our main critisism is the forks of the firmware can become confusing with often two different versions available that are not compatible with each other
