Overall Satisfaction with SQL Developer

Oracle SQL Developer is used as primary SQL Development tool, across the whole organization. It's used for development using Oracle 11g and 12c database. It was also used to access IBM DB2 Database, before completely switching to Oracle DB. It's simple to use, for everyone, starting from developers to QA, to DBAs. Developers, QA, DBAs, Managers, everyone uses it, across the whole organization.
  • It's easy to use and has lots of inbuilt shortcuts, which can be customized as well.
  • Works with various DBs including IBM DB2.
  • Simple UI, with multiple tab support
  • When opening more than 5-6 connection tabs, it tends to freeze, even of a machine with latest hardware and 32 GB+ Memory.
  • The "Explain Plan" section of the query needs improvement. By default, it doesn't have CPU cost and partition details.
  • Error detail section can be improved.
  • It's easy to use, even for new developers who're not familiar with it.
  • It's feature rich.
  • Supports different databases.
I've used TOAD before, but I like SQL Developer more. It's better in every aspect. When it comes to UI, easy of use, features, it's better and more advanced compared to TOAD.
SQL Developer is a great tool when dealing with SQL Databases, like Oracle 11g, 12c or IBM DB2. For No-SQL databases, like MongoDB, this isn't appropriate.
