Overall Satisfaction with SQL Sentry Performance Advisor

We use SQL Sentry Performance Advisor to help identify and troubleshoot performance problems with our Microsoft SQL Server environments. It allows us to monitor current server performance and see slow running queries that may be causing waits or blocking. It also allows us to see historical trends to compare current performance to a previous point in time.

Pros

  • Snapshot of current performance
  • View running queries for a given point in time
  • Send alerts when problems like blocking occur

Cons

  • Analysis of whether the statistics we are seeing are normal or cause for concern.
I think SQL Sentry is ideal for both devs and dbas. Developers benefit from seeing the impact their queries make. DBAs can identify queries that need to be rewritten.

Hello Timothy, We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to review and rate SQL Sentry. We are constantly working to not only provide features that can give our users as much information as possible, but also on resources and additional features to provide insight into what particular data sets mean and their implications. Make sure you are checking out the links provided in the custom condition descriptions, as they will provide some additional insight on the issue at hand. Also, make sure to check up on the SQL Sentry blog site, as there are several blogs discussing different performance issues. As for statistics related to execution plan generation, our new Index Analysis feature can provide some great information, such as last update dates and a Statistic Histogram. You can also manually update statistics for a particular index directly through the client. For a quick rundown of this new feature, make sure to check out the provided link below: -http://blogs.sqlsentry.com/aaronbertrand/sql-sentry-v10-index-analysis/ If you have any specifics on what you would like to see as it pertains to analysis, please feel free to share. For additional questions or assistance, you can email Support@sqlsentry.com. Thank you again for your time. We appreciate your support of SQL Sentry!
