Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Performance Advisor to gather performance metrics and to monitor SQL Server thresholds. It is a quick way to access bottlenecks when issues are raised. We then drill down into the suspected areas and find the root cause.

Likelihood to Recommend

I recommend SQL Sentry for critical SQL Servers and not all. This will control costs and maximize value. However, I would recommend it if you have SQL Sentry to utilize it in a QA/Test environment for actively developed non-trivial applications to help diagnose problems before they move to production.

Hello Matthew, Thank you for reviewing and rating SQL Sentry. We are so happy to know that SQL Sentry has been helpful in identifying performance issues. In regards to occasional sluggishness, make sure to verify that you are performing regular maintenance on the SQL Sentry database. If you already are, make sure the current plan is still adequate, as the frequency of maintenance may need to increase as the size of the SQL Sentry database grows and the number of monitored connections increases. Fragmentation and poor statistics can certainly begin to cause problems, especially for heavily utilized indexes such as those related to the Dashboard and Top SQL.
