Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Jaspersoft

  • We embed TIBCO Jaspersoft into our internally used application(s)
We use Jaspersoft to monitor our application we use at AWS. Our primary applications on AWS retrieve and collection multiple USD datasources.
These datasources are use in making our final product. The authenticity and collection of this data is highly valued and the reports provided ensure this.
  • Very easy to use. Drag and drop.
  • Very versatile when using data adapter to our HBase and Oracle backend data bases.
  • Reports are easy to read and understand.
  • Ad Hoc is not as powerful and flexible as report creation using Studio.
  • API is not documented as well as I think it could be. I ended up googling for a lot of questions. Community is great through.
  • Error reporting could provide more detailed. I caught myself on several occasions trying to figure out the root of the problem when it should be easily stated.
Jaspersoft has really help us in keeping track of of our USD data sources. The ability to do a weekly check on when, where, and amount of USD data we have collected. It saves on time tracking issues that can occur further down the production process. If data is corrupt or was not received we will know immediately further preventing any delay in release of final product. Before we used any reporting software, we had to spend time tracking and documenting. Jaspersoft has really helped with this.
We use multiple backend storage type Hbase, MySql, and Oracle. Jaspersoft has been very easy setting up the adapters for these. We have been using Visulize.js to help embedded code in our internal API communicate with Oracle. This has been very convenient and is nice to be abilty to have the software work for you instead of working with the software.
It is nice having to setup Jaspersoft only once and have to control all of our instances we have on AWS. We have multiple servers up at different location around the globe collecting data. Having a one stop reporting and logging provides only one place to look and troubleshoot. This is also extremely handy when dealing with specific privileges and common access since we have multiple users.
Cost and ease of use. We ultimately decided to use Jaspersoft because we didn't need to do anything complicated. At the time we were looking into Microsoft Business Intelligence. While we saw Microsoft BI having actual better reporting and tools, we choose to use Jaspersoft because of support fees that Microsoft charges. Since we didn't need too much and money was a issue Jaspersoft was our decision.
I find it very well suited for basic reporting. A very easy interface, straight forward report, and easy domain access.
I believe there are better options for more complex reporting but for what we need Jaspersoft works well.
Visualize, while being a very nice tool with very dynamic reporting, seems to be lacking in the abilities to share data over multiple accounts.

We really didnt have a hard time implementing Jaspersoft into our environment . The only small issue we had was with the connectivity of our Oracle servers. I would recommend watching the 5 minute getting started video on TIBCO website. This will give you a basis of how to begin implementing this into your environment.
  • Self-taught
Most of our training has been with trial and error, and of-course external web searches. Jaspersoft has alot to offer and can be alittle over whelming. On our team we had people to would specialize in certain parts of the reporting. This provided a much easier way to master the product.
As I mentioned earlier. The approach we took was to have a team learn certain parts of the process. We had a section work with the server, another section work on the studio, and the last section on the ETL. We would all know the full scope of the reporting but would only need to learn the specifics for what we were assigned.
We did not participate in the TIBCO Jaspersoft UpShift program
