Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Jaspersoft

  • Very easy to use. Drag and drop.
  • Very versatile when using data adapter to our HBase and Oracle backend data bases.
  • Reports are easy to read and understand.
  • Ad Hoc is not as powerful and flexible as report creation using Studio.
  • API is not documented as well as I think it could be. I ended up googling for a lot of questions. Community is great through.
  • Error reporting could provide more detailed. I caught myself on several occasions trying to figure out the root of the problem when it should be easily stated.
Cost and ease of use. We ultimately decided to use Jaspersoft because we didn't need to do anything complicated. At the time we were looking into Microsoft Business Intelligence. While we saw Microsoft BI having actual better reporting and tools, we choose to use Jaspersoft because of support fees that Microsoft charges. Since we didn't need too much and money was a issue Jaspersoft was our decision.
I find it very well suited for basic reporting. A very easy interface, straight forward report, and easy domain access.
I believe there are better options for more complex reporting but for what we need Jaspersoft works well.
Visualize, while being a very nice tool with very dynamic reporting, seems to be lacking in the abilities to share data over multiple accounts.

Support and Training

We have only had a couple of tickets to be open while using Jaspersoft. Each time we have a very prompte responses that would meet our expectations. We always felt that our issues were being address in a timely manner

Need to explain problems multiple times
We really didnt have a hard time implementing Jaspersoft into our environment . The only small issue we had was with the connectivity of our Oracle servers. I would recommend watching the 5 minute getting started video on TIBCO website. This will give you a basis of how to begin implementing this into your environment.
  • Self-taught
Most of our training has been with trial and error, and of-course external web searches. Jaspersoft has alot to offer and can be alittle over whelming. On our team we had people to would specialize in certain parts of the reporting. This provided a much easier way to master the product.
As I mentioned earlier. The approach we took was to have a team learn certain parts of the process. We had a section work with the server, another section work on the studio, and the last section on the ETL. We would all know the full scope of the reporting but would only need to learn the specifics for what we were assigned.
