Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Spotfire

Our research group is using Spotfire to find relationships between water quality parameters in water well samples taken from shallow aquifers. Spotfire displays the data very quickly, making the data review stage very efficient and allowing for multiple comparisons within minutes. It allows us to determine where we would like to go next in our research.

Pros

Cons

  • could use more colour options in display
  • data display could be more customizable
  • expensive for individuals or small research groups
Spotfire is much simpler and way quicker to use than ArcGIS so would use Spotfire more often however, I prefer the appearance and display options of ArcMap for the final product.
  • Self-taught
I would have liked to have had actual training to have been able to get the full functionality of Spotfire but, it's not hard to learn if you're using it for basic visual display and data analysis.
We did not use Spotfire in association with other Spotfire products.
Well suited for large data comparisons. Great for spatial data! Very good for the data sorting stage of review where you're trying to determine interesting relationships or non-correlating parameters. Great for oil and gas work flow as well as aqueous geochemistry studies.
