Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Spotfire

It is our primary BI tool for analyzing revenue, user acquisition, web performance, and any other metrics collected for our organization. It is used primarily in the Marketing department but some dev users access it for usage metrics. It allows us to track various departmental KPIs as well as visualizing any other performance goals as required.
  • Custom calculations within visualizations.
  • Flexible data source connectors.
  • Built-in trend and statistical analysis.
  • More customization within each visualization ie. manually adjusting elements within a chart, such as labels.
  • More user-friendly automation to allow for scheduled updates of files.
  • Map-based visualizations are much harder than they need to be.
  • We are able to capture negative trends quickly and allow us to respond in a timely manner.
  • Less time spent creating regular reports which free up more time for ad-hoc reporting.
Tableau does map-based visualizations much easier.
Best suited for companies or departments that require higher-level statistical calculations. It's not for BI amateurs and isn't as user friendly as some of the competition.

Using TIBCO Spotfire

5 - The primary users of Spotfire include the Sr. Manager of Data, Analytics, and Research, who is responsible for populating and maintaining all of the data that the various stakeholders rely on, the person in charge of marketing communications, our online advertising manager (which includes CPC and other online channels), and our Director of Sales and Marketing who heads up this team.
3 - We utilize three different members of our organization to support the on-premise installation of Spotfire. They include our systems and network administrator, our ops analyst who handles the maintenance of our database infrastructure, and our DevSecOps manager who oversees this team and handles the major networking hardware and software upkeep.
  • Access to all of our first-party data, from revenue reporting to user acquisition and customer analytics
  • Automation of reports for various in-house and external stakeholders
  • Dashboards for teams to use for monitoring and process planning
  • Better utilize the geo mapping functionality once we implement better lat/long data capture
  • Connect to more third party solution providers to bring more data into Spotfire natively
I rarely ever use it because the naming conventions we use for our database columns aren't intuitive enough for the recommendation engine to understand how to best pair various metrics.
It's a very powerful tool that allows for a myriad of customizations within the analysis files themselves, particularly with the custom expression functionality. There have been some great strides with the quality of the visualization options (which were not great to begin with) and I hope to see more improvements made as the product gets updated.
They seem to be very powerful, but also extremely complicated to setup and not intuitive at all. It is also very challenging to find suitable shapefiles to create meaningful and visually appealling visualizations.
