Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365
We initally used Veeam for Microsoft 365 to back up our mailboxes, Onedrive, and Sharepoint. it allowed us to restore any of thise services in am acceptible timeframe. It also filled the need for an offsite, cross region backup solution.
Pros
- Consistent backups
- No fuss restores
- Reliable restores
Cons
- Too expensive for what it does
- Complicated setup if you plan to create cross region / cross platform sync
- There's no way to directly archive to S3, if you're doing cross platform redundancy
- We stopped our subscription and moved to a different, cheaper solution
- Had to spend too much time to troubleshoot and fix our VM after updates
- Support is inconsistent, or didn't know the product enough to be helpful
I don't inherently trust any service and like to maintain my own backups. Additionally, we need to have offsite or cross region copies for regulations we must adhere to.
We did not benefit from this capability. (Thankfully)
During my tenure, we didnt need to restore in any way more than a direct restore to a mailbox. Which worked well.
The restores are super simple, you can literally kick off a restore and walk away, its that easy. Veeam definitely chwcked the b9xnqhen comes to our ability to comply with governance.
