Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365

We use Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 to backup high-value email accounts for Office 365. We backup email, SharePoint and OneDrive for senior management, tier 2 management, and some clinicians. This allows us to be able to restore individual emails without having to open a ticket with Microsoft. The Veeam backup restore process is a much smoother and quicker solution.
  • Once configured, it seems to run with few errors
  • The Azure "appliance" keeps us from having to purchase new hardware
  • It was a little confusing to get it configured.
  • We had to open tickets with Veeam and Microsoft to connect it.
  • Has allowed us to recover individual emails that we would likely not have been able to recover without it.
  • It has allowed us to run in a virtual cloud environment.
After several emails from Veeam (and other vendors), I attended a Veeam webinar regarding Office 365 backup. I cam to understand that the Veeam solution allowed for finer detail recovery than the included Microsoft Office 365 support would allow for. This has been especially important to us through the years from the time we ran Exchange on premise. It also appeared to be cost-effective and allowed for much quicker recovery times, along with allowing us more restore options.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 works well as a rule. But there is room for improvement. The original deployment and configuration could be clearer and easier. We would also like to see configuration options more like what is available from Veeam Backup and Restore.
Other than in testing, we have not experienced any need since going to Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365.
We have not had the need to restore since migration to Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365, these options are among the reasons that we will appreciate the product in the future.
1. The Veeam/ Azure virtual appliance allowed us to quickly spin up a Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365, without the need to install Windows, then update, then install Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
2. The restore to pst option allows us to easily recover mailboxes (or items) of users that have left the organization
  • For on premise we have used Backup Exec until we found Veeam.
  • For Office 365, we have not used any other product.
  • We did evaluate Barracuda and ManageEngine, but we decided to go with Veeam, primarily due to our positive experiences with Veeam Backup and Restore.
The email support is a little slow, but overall, we have had fairly decent luck with all Veeam, support.

Any organization running Office 365 could benefit from Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365. It generally works well and backs up without affecting users' access to email and data. The Azure/ Veeam virtual appliance seems well-suited to any organization 1000 accounts or less. I am not sure how it would scale to larger organizations.
