Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 is used to back up our domain and O365 data, which gives us tremendous peace of mind. A lot of Microsoft's backend dashboard for compliance and retention is a little difficult to understand. There's something magical about being able to put your arms around your data that is physically downloaded to a device (like a NAS) on-premise. With detached and isolated backups like this, we have great peace of mind, controlling our environment's data, ensure nothing gets lost or deleted (accidentally or intentionally).
- Extremely easy setup and configuration
- Great backup destination options
- Integrate with Veeam Backup and Replication to keep it all under one roof
- For really small organizations with less than 10 employees, you can't beat free.
Realizing how convoluted Microsoft's options for this were, especially when we had an employee "accidentally" delete some very important files - we had to jump through flaming hoops with Microsoft support to try to get the files back. Microsoft also charges extra for this archiving and compliance. Which on that point, how good of a backup is it, that the person providing the service is also backing up the data. As unlikely as it might seem, what if Microsoft gets hit with cryptoware and the O365 databases get trashed, including the archives? I don't presume to know Microsoft's infrastructure to mitigate these risks, but I do know my data is downloaded and fully backed up sitting on-premise? So for me, that's peace of mind.
Yes, we had staff members "accidentally" delete very important information, and we were able to reinject it seamlessly back into their mailbox with zero downtime. Amazing.
Exporting a portion of a mailbox to .pst is extremely powerful.
Granular backup and restore of individual objects in a mailbox is impressive.
Active Backup for Office 365 by Synology is pretty impressive too. It is license-free so long as you bought the right NAS from Synology (not all models support it)
