Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office is used to store all data associated with our organization's Microsoft 365 suite. This allows for peace of mind for a variety of concerns including employee turnover, cyber security, and cloud-based storage. Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 works behind the scenes allowing for a seamless backup experience.
- Cloud-Based Backup.
- Data security.
- Accessibility
- Frequent updates.
- The lack of flexibility during the setup/data migration phase.
- It is challenging to remove unwanted data that is no longer needed for backup (i.e. terminated employees).
- The Veeam search feature feels outdated.
- As a government entity, it is important to save data (i.e. emails, files, etc.) for a specified period of time. Microsoft 365 cannot ensure safe storage after a certain period of time. Veeam allows us to step outside the traditional file cabinet solutions.
- The cost to implement Veeam is minimal.
- The process of installing the software is easy and take little effort to maintain.
As I noted earlier, our organization must maintain records and make them accessible to the public for a specific period of time. Microsoft Office 365 does not promise permanent record-keeping for files, specifical emails on Outlook. With frequent right-to-know requests from the Public, Veeam provides an easy solution to ensure that data saved on its platform is secure and accessible at any time.
While our organization has not had to recover "stolen" or "corrupted" data, having the peace of mind that we can when/if the time comes is worth the price tag. With increasing employee turnover across all sectors, having a backup for all emails, files, etc. is essential.
Providing easy and accessible features such as a search bar within Veeam allows users to find desired files in a few clicks. There is no need to mine/navigate troves of user data for one specific file. As noted previously, our organization has not needed to find a "missing" file to date. But from navigating the Veeam platform I feel comfortable knowing that I can when/if the time comes.
The cost of the product is a big selling point. Being a license-specific product, it allows any sized organization to implement its software. If your organization has 4 Microsoft Office 365 accounts, you only need to procure 4 Veeam backups at the cost of a few dollars per month. There is no need to over-invest. The ease of use is also a big selling point. It is an effortless platform to use once it is set up.
During the search and implementation phase, our organization also looked into Carbonite Backup for Office 365. I was not impressed with the sales pitch and the whole solution seemed clunky. The price tag was also higher than Veeam's offer. Both products offered a similar solution but Veeam seemed like the better fit.
