Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Our entire information technology stack uses Veeam Backup & Replication for a variety of uses. Mainly for backups of course, but also for its fast and simple replication process. This basically gives us a copy of our data center at a remote location. We do also use it for restores and testing them.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Great and solid product and features
  • Easy to use all around
  • Faster than competing tools
  • Could use more detailed setup instructions
  • Faster response from support
  • Less downtime when patching certain pieces
All our workloads are covered from top to bottom. Every server we deploy gets it loaded and all the available tools per its server type. That means some specific servers (SQL, exchange, etc.) get special functions through Veeam. Those usually give it the edge up on other backup solutions we've seen.
  • All kinds of time saved not dealing with headaches
  • Money saved on multiple tools
  • Time saved when doing restores or testing them
Lots of reasons pushed us to test out a whole array of new backup tools. Veeam had the most close integration with VMware and our VMs so why not go with that since we're mostly on virtual servers. It was the right push we needed to get management to approve the budget for the app.
Cloud features are plentiful and majorly useful. You get all kinds of fancy bells and whistles like public and private cloud backup, restores, and replications. All of them are super advanced and seamless. Once you have your clouds set up, it's like dealing with local storage to drives, except it's totally in the cloud.
The file share and NAS features are great. Protecting data that matters most to users makes us look really good. Users are seriously impressed with turnaround time for restoring files. Also a lot of these are important files that need protection from malware and ransomware and with Veeam they've got us covered.
I would likely recommend it based on all the good things it does. You get what you pay for and you pay top dollar here so you get a good product. Having to deal with cheaper but inferior tools to do something as important as backups will make you think twice when it's time to upgrade.
