Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Veaam Backup & Replication is used for backing up our company's data to disk then to cloud and it's used across the three sites that I manage.
It resolves the backup and disaster recovery challenges in our company.
It resolves the backup and disaster recovery challenges in our company.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- License portability as your environment needs change
- Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Versatility of working with different types and tiers of storage.
- Consistent, fast backups.
- Consistent, fast restores.
- Database restore lacks some features like restoring to the same host with different name etc.
- Slow termination of jobs.
- Better error descriptions for troubleshooting.
Multiple locations is a great and beneficial use, cloud servers and backup. Fast backup and recovery.
Maybe too expensive for a small backup environment, but there are some free options that are second to none.
- We improved our DR plan by leaps and bounds after being stalled for years.
- Moving from Symantec we have saved on tape drives and license which we have allocated to Veeam procurements.
My personal frustration with managing multiple backup products and trying to determine job success every day was the primary trigger. We also had throughput issues with the our other backup product we had and did not have confidence in it. Once we we did our research and saw the functionality and costs it was a no-brainer to switch.
We use Veeam cloud agent to store our weekly backups on the cloud for DR purposes and it works great.
We do not currently use the NAS fileshare backup functionality of Veeam at this time.
