Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use Veeam Backup & Replication to backup our servers and virtual machines. With VMWare, if you want to use replication, you have to buy 2 expensive licenses, one for each server in the replication cluster. With Veeam Backup & Replication you can use the free VMWare license, as long as you don't exceed the amount of machines allowed. For smb this will usually suffice.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • None of the above
  • replication, meaning keeping a VM synced with a copy on another server so that you can easily swap between them when one crashed
  • backup, that obviously includes differential and incremental
  • file based restore
  • I wish that the program would be able to troubleshoot errors on its own and fix them.
  • Maybe, prepare a cup of coffee :)

We don't have cloud workloads. We have roughly 25 pysical and 150 virtual workloads protected (in between our customers) That is what we initially expected and we now hope to acquire more customers and to also implement Veeam Backup & Replication by them. Whenever we needed to restore anything from backup, Veeam Backup & Replication was there to serve us, and we are not going to move over to any other product.
  • Firstly the is obviously the security, knowing that you can recover quickly when something goes wrong
  • The main ROI you get when you actually recover from a disaster, but even restoring files which were deleted by mistake is also a nice return
  • Don't wait till you have a disaster from which you can't recover before implementing backups. Don't make me say "I told you so" when it's to late
We had been using all kind of backup solutions and were trying to customize the experience according to the client's needs and wishes. Once we discovered Veeam Backup & Replication there was no need anymore to shop round. Veeam Backup & Replication is just so volatile that you can set it up to suit any need
We did not make use of the cloud capabilities. We serve mainly very conservative smb and at the moment we are working on explaining the importance of backup all together. The type of companies we service will quickly move to different providers if we try to push them to "advanced" technology. The very mention of the word cloud will cause them to go dizzy.
As mentioned before, our customers are not ready to move to advanced featured offered by Veeam Backup & Replication. That's why we didn't yet really make any use of those capabilities. We are looking forward to advancing there too, but have to take tiny steps, one by one. We will repport back when moving on.
Veeam Backup & Replication will give you security that your data will remain accessible no matter what, as long as you set it up properly. Don't rely on a single backup locally, rather take an additional backup home with you, or store it in the cloud. If you're looking for a backup solution that plainly copies the data over to a second location then there is no need to use Veeam Backup & Replication. Just run a simple copy paste job with the task scheduler. Veeam Backup & Replication is for advanced backup and for streamlining the process.
