Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Our business had a horrible backup solution in place. As we are a multinational company and many resources are located at the main office, the storage and network could not experience considerable slowdowns during large backups. Due to this, we were forced to choose a smaller subset of data to back up. With VEEAM, incremental takes minutes and the full backups do not even get noticed. The recovery options, retention options, Scale-Out options to automatically upload to offsite sources ... everything is top-notch.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Non intrusive backups.
  • Great retention/scale-out options.
  • Simple and fast recovery, from full VM to single files.
  • More details and direction in any error messages.
  • A more stern warning when shutting down that a backup is in progress.

30 VMs of varying sizes. It is slightly more than anticipated but this is due to company growth and the addition of services.
  • The confidence in having a full backup plan is immeasurable.
  • The ease of use of this program is a huge asset.
This is exactly the case with my company. We were outsourcing much of our backup via Cloud servers. Local backups were limited due to technical limitations (older hardware and software solutions). When we lost 2 TB of data and the Cloud service provider was unable to restore it, we realized we needed to invest internally with our own solution. Having Veeam in place is working out perfectly. It has never let me down.
We run a SOBR to AWS so it is a set it and forget it offload of backups. Retention policies preserve what we need while allowing us to control offsite storage costs.
All of our data is in VMs that get backed up using standard methods.
Veeam is incredible at handling full backups without impacting my network. Large full backups can be done using synthetic backups from incremental. We are a small to midsize company and cost is always a factor. The product is reasonably priced, but I need to make decisions regarding some less critical machines to not back them up to keep the license count lower. If there was a limited license option that could be scheduled out for a once-a-month style limited backup, that would be ideal. It is a very minor complaint though, as the licenses aren't really that expensive.
