Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365

This product is used by the organization to back up our Office 365 records such as SharePoint and emails for recovery in the event of a disaster at Microsoft. This product also helps with compliance reasons as it pertains to data retention for certain aspects that our organization has to comply with. Along with that, we are in the process of setting up the end user portal to allow users to retrieve their emails if they've deleted them.

Pros

  • Back Up Policy execution
  • Ease of set up and searching within restores

Cons

  • Clearer understanding of what caused the change in licensing to drop within the Veeam Data Cloud portal
  • Logs for errors sometimes are not as descriptive as can be regarding exactly what caused the issue
  • Ability to easily backup a 350 user tenant of Exchange mailboxes with ease, allowing staff to work on other projects
The need to satisfy requirements for back ups and data retention due to the nature of the organization I work for. Going with Veeam made this requirement easy to meet and maintain with little to no head aches from the staff.
It is overall easy to get a grasp of and be able to navigate the UI but there are certain elements that feel a bit hidden or too plain to be useful. The logs about when a restore is complete could be presented better or how much detail goes into reports can be expanded to allow for better reporting.
At this moment in time, the organization I work has not gone through such drastic events but we are prepared should the need arise. In terms of restoring data that has been accidentally lost or deleted on a small scale, Veeam has worked out great.
Restoring to Office 365 has worked out great for restoring small scale lost data.
Back up retention, as it helps meet compliance as well as the restore search capability as it allows to find if the data is in the restore before actually implementing the restore.
The support is okay, nothing out of the ordinary the 2 times of used them.

Best case scenario for Veeam M365 back up is where the organization would like to offload their data restore process to a vendor where they may not have extreme quantities of data to move up to the cloud within Veeam. When large quantities of data are involved, a more robust back up solution may be better suited to take care of those back up jobs instead.
