Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use it to primarily handle backups and VM cloning for our vmware infrastructure and certain core physical servers. Our scope is approximately 75 to 150 VMs overall and this is expected to increase shortly. One other use case for our veeam internally is to replicate or migrate VMs across different regions where this would have previously not been possible.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- NAS filers
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Handles backing up and reliable replicating virtualized VMWARE infrastructure
- Having a reliable working copy to rely on before beginning a maintenance window
- Integration with HPE Nimble and our other NAS' is pretty solid, though netgear's readynas doesn't seem to be available as one of the supported providers.
- Better reporting with more options
- Additional focus on moving to a centralized model instead of requiring each instance to be installed and managed primarily through different backup servers across our locations
- Pre-run estimations and warnings if there is insufficient space on a given datastore would be very helpful

Yes
Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?
Yes
Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?
I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process
Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?
I wasn't involved with the implementation phase
Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?
Yes
We currently have 25-50 VMs protected and plan to expand this to over a 100 fairly soon as part of an overhaul of backup infrastructure
- Confidence before starting riskier maintenance windows is a large component of what veeam is able to offer for us
- Some of the segmentation between different backup servers across our data enters causes unnecessary delays or backups that are duplicated unnecessarily
- Lack of certain storage vendors being natively supported requires hacky workarounds not fit for a production environment
I was not present at my position in this company when this decision was made or prior to that
Yes, we have been able to overhaul certain aspects of our infrastructure with peace of mind knowing that we have a working copy to depend on should something not go to plan. The recovery has been consistently on point and useful to our needs. We have plans to implement and additional off-site backup location soon as well.
Not really applicable for our usecase currently.
