Veeam Data Platform review
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
Veeam Data Platform is used in our organization as a backup managemant tool. It is responsable for taking the backup of our virtual enviroment, sql server instances, file shares and physical hosts. Veeam Data Platform is great in speed of both backup and restore executions, and the capability of consult some information without the need of a complete restore.
Pros
- Backup of virtual machines
- Backup of SQL Server instances
- Ultra fast restore and recovery data
- Inventory of the entire infrastructure
Cons
- Web interface for management
- MySQL and MongoDB native backup
- Virtual Machine convertions, such from Hyper-V to AWS EC2
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- NAS filers
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
Almost our intire enviroment is covered by Veeam Data Platform, and we plan to expand this coverage. We use it to backup the mais and key virtual machines needed in our business, almost all of our physical servers and all file repositories. When we first deploy it, we only use for backup our virtual machines, but now we cover a lot more scenarios and planning to expand this coverage.
- Return of investment
- Agility on recovery tasks
- Hability of copy backups to the cloud
- Immutability
Before Veeam Data Platform, we only use native backup tools that cames with the software or application. There was a lot of distributed scheduled tasks, and wich responsable person uses a different backup repositories, so the backup data was not centralized. When needed, the restore task was always a challenge, and we never know it will be succed or not. The trigger action to change this backups tools was the need of an agile backup for virtual enviroment and restorations for it.
We use Veeam Data Platform to backup our on premisses enviroment, and one of the backup targets is storage objects in the cloud, both Azure and AWS. We do not need to concern with and secondary task to copy the backup files to the cloud, Veeam Data Platform do that with the backup copy job. For now, we do not use it to cover cloud enviroment or restore for disaster recovery.
We have two critical to business NFS file share in our enviroment. They are configured in a high availability model, and we backup then several times a day, in order to secure various restore points. It takes both full and incremental backups of NFS on our enviroment, and they perform very fast on those tasks.
- NAKIVO Backup & Replication
Veeam Data Platform stacks up on Nakivo on the speed of the execution tasks, such as the backup job and the restore need. We have scenarios that, the same virtual machine toke some minutos to be backuped up by Veeam Data Platform, and several ours to complete by Nakivo. Same scenario on restore task, to recovery an entire virtual machine.
