Veeam Data Platform perfect for the right sized business.
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We utilized Veeam Data Platform to backup our VMs running on Nutanix AHV. We had it backing up VMs to different storage solutions including two onsite NAS and some within the VM that was running Veeam Data Platform. We had Veeam Data Platform setup to backup on specific schedules for specific use cases. We also therefore utilized Veeam Data Platform to restore deleted files and folders from some VMs as a method of easy recovery.
Pros
- Easy to Setup
- Easy File Retrieval
- Easy VM Recovery
Cons
- Difficult to maintain
- Used multiple worker VMs, which meant more potential problems
- At the time, could not create immutable backups
- Virtualized workloads
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- None of the above

Approximately 60. This is what we anticipated. We had Veeam Data Platform backing up around 60 VMs across 2 Nutanix clusters. This was our entire on-premise workload and included file shares, critical network VMs, some servers running SQL, as well as a few VMs that lived in our DMZ. We had no physical workloads or cloud workloads, just virtual.
- Provided stable recovery
- Didn't meet our security needs
- Great price point
I was not a part of the transition to Veeam Data Platform. My understanding is that when we moved to using Nutanix and having all of our VMs, as well as some phsyical servers, hosted on AHV, that Veeam Data Platform was the easiest, best fit, most cost effective solution we could set up.
We did not use any of these capabilities. All of our workloads were virtual and local. We backed up Nutanix VMs, to local storage resources, and utilized Veeam Data Platform for file recovery and VM backups. We did not use Veeam Data Platform with any cloud workloads or any cloud storage solutions. We did not leverage the cloud for disaster recovery.

Cohesity has more functionality, more flexibility, and a much larger price tag. Veeam Data Platform is a great product for small to medium businesses who need a backup and recovery solution with a small business price tag. Veeam Data Platform takes some time to setup, but can be done by most IT professionals. Once setup, Veeam Data Platform needs very little maintenance.
