Great low cost backup solution.
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use it as our primary file store backup and file recovery. We also use it to back up a physical-only DB server.
Pros
- Setup, is a breeze.
- Data Recovery from folder or file level is amazing.
- Bare metal restores while it takes time, is flawless.
Cons
- UI I feel could be snappier.
- The load times to even get to the directory or file recovery area could be faster.
- Detailed information while doing a bare metal restore would be nice.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- NAS filers
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
We are currently backing up 5 servers. This is more than initially expected. We only planned for 2 servers, but have consistently been adding more and more workloads to our VEAAM instances. The product is great for a number of things we hadn't thought of at the start of implementation.
- Recovery from Ransomware has been easier.
- Recovering files after someone has deleted them is much easier and less time-consuming than using Windows' shadow copy feature.
- Cloning the physical DB server was very nice and easy. A lot less time-consuming than reloading the OS and all the packages.
We were hit with a ransomware attack and had few recovery options other than paying the ransom. Unfortunately, we ended up having to pay. Afterwards, we implemented Veaam to be an immutable backup repository.
Yeah, we target a fully off-site cloud-based data storage repo for Veeam to send its data to. Recovery time is a bit slower, but we aren't risking our data by keeping it in-house anymore.
Yeah, we have users who accidentally or intentionally delete network files and need them recovered. The process is much easier with Veeam than with Windows shadow copies. Can't help but be grateful for how much time has been cut from this process.
We had used products like HP VSA, DoubleTake, and Unitrends, but due to the amount of data our file server housed, they were just either too slow or too expensive to maintain. Veeam is cheaper, faster, and better run than any of the others we have experience with. Would never look at going back.
