Overall Satisfaction with Turbonomic (formerly VMTurbo)

We use Turbonomic to monitor and help manager our vmWare environment for our organization. It allows us to best utilize our hardware to ensure the best possible performance for all of our users while at the same time getting the most possible use out of our hardware. Turbonomic has allowed us to use fewer Host servers but at the same time allow the users the best performance by choosing which servers aren't being used to their full ability and which are being over used. It monitors and lets us know when to move a virtual machine to a different host with more resources if needed or vice versa in the case where we don't need as many resources. Turbonomic also has the capabilities of automating the entire process. This allows the network team to concentrate on other projects because Turbonomic will continue to keep our vmWare environment consistently running at its best.
  • First and formost its monitoring ability allows you to see the resources your virtual environment are using.
  • It also provides suggestions for best performance and can automatically execute those when needed.
  • Another awesome feature is the ability to plan for future virtual machine deployments. Turbonomic will allow you to see before creating the new vm if you need to purchase new hardware for a host or if your current hardware can support the vm without impacting current systems. This feature alone can save a ton of money for any business.
  • There's not anything I can think to say bad against Turbonomic. I mean I guess it could be free, but then again with the money it will save your company it realistically pays for itself.
  • We've been able to increase employee efficiency with Turbonomic by maximizing the abilities of our servers. When they aren't fighting for resources and are running at their best ability, the end user has a better experience.
  • The other thing it's done has allowed us to turn off or even remove some Host servers. This has saved us money on power consumption and temperature management in the data center.
  • This also has helped us to get projects approved when a server is needed. With many of the resources we've freed up, its MUCH easier to go to finance and ask for funds for a new project when the cost of a server isn't needed because we now are much more efficient with our use of our current servers and drive arrays.
The only thing I can think of in which I wouldn't suggest Turbonomic to a colleague would be in an a small business situation in which very little hardware is even used. I consider it more of a midlevel to enterprise level product.
