Overall Satisfaction with VMware ESXi
We use VMware ESXi across the whole organization to host servers that service every department in the organization. Virtualization with VMware ESXi has allowed us to reduce the total number of physical machines in our datacenter, thereby reducing the overall cost of maintaining those servers. Having a single point of management, from my desk, of all servers in our organization is a huge help.
- Centralized management is SO useful.
- Virtual console is great for troubleshooting issues ranging from boot to network connectivity.
- The ability to dynamically resize disks and add storage is crucial.
- Accessing the bare metal hard disk and moving machines around is virtually (no pun intended) impossible.
- Licensing is increasingly expensive.
- Less server downtime (vMotion!!)
- Will lead to a decent ROI (once we get over the initial cost of the hypervisor licensing and hardware)
- KVM and XenCenter
Currently migrating all machines from an existing XenCenter environment to ESXi - VMware wins, hands down. Better configuration of machines before and after they've been created, much easier migration (vMotion!!!).
