Overall Satisfaction with Windows Server

We use Windows Server's RDS as our platform for cloud application deployment to our customers. We also use HyperV virtualization to host additional Windows Servers as well as linux servers.

Pros

  • RDS
  • HyperV
  • SMB file shares

Cons

  • Better unity between hyperV management tools
  • licensing is sometimes hard to understand
  • Licensing for our needs has been reasonable compared to other commercial hypervisor vendors and has saved us quite a bit in our particular use case anyhow.
  • Uptime has been good, reducing support costs
Windows Server is easy and intuitive to use, especially if you are coming from a windows environment and are already familiar with the workstation OS.
Familiar interface thus easy to adopt. Licensing costs are better than other commercial virtualization vendors at least for our hardware/needs.

Do you think Windows Server delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Windows Server's feature set?

Yes

Did Windows Server live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Windows Server go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Windows Server again?

Yes

Parallels Remote Application Server (Parallels RAS), Sage 100, ConnectWise Asio
HyperV is a competitive virtualization platform that is easy to use as is RDS for remote access by multiple users. Windows Server is a well rounded platform that can handle multiple needs, but I would tend towards linux if I had a more 'single purpose' need in mind.

We have spent years in the windows eco system and are unlikely to leave. We have the skillset to maintain it and users are accustomed to it.
