Overall Satisfaction with Yellowfin

Yellowfin was one of the many data visualization tools we had demo'd and currently resell to our customers. The use case for this product was to be able to use Yellowfin to identify, quantify & present our data in a manner that was efficient, concise, and easy to digest. Yellowfin is a great software for business intelligence purposes.

Pros

  • Action based dashboard / home page
  • Quick, powerful tool to visualize data in an easy to digest format

Cons

  • Pretty expensive solution relative to Power BI
  • Yellowfin gives us a BI tool that is incredibly sleek, which leads our data to be clean, concise, and in an "easy-to-digest" format.
Yellowfin is no doubt, a stronger, more eloquent and polished tool compared to Microsoft's Power BI. The issue with our company specifically is that we are a big Microsoft shop, and pay for Power BI more or less in our bundle esp w/ O365. While the Yellowfin tool is a more sleek tool, the cost to our company is something that we have to weight against a negligible cost with Power BI.

As mentioned previously, if a newer company is looking for a strong, polished BI tool, Yellowfin would be a great software vendor to consider. Unfortunately, the high cost might be a barrier to these newer companies who dont have any legacy software/agreements such as an EA agreement with Microsoft.
I did not experience any need to reach out to Yellowfin support, therefore, I cannot comment accurately as to the support experience.
I would say if your company is not a traditional Microsoft shop and does not have the capabilities of Power BI already.. And you can stomach the cost of Yellowfin for a BI tool, then it is a great fit. However.. For our company.. The issue is that we have access to BI and for a much smaller price point, can have most of the festures of Yellowfin.
