Overall Satisfaction with Zscaler Internet Access

Our situation is unique. Our employees are fully remote and our infrastructure is entirely cloud native. Having no physical data centre makes VPN unnecessary. Also, having end users working off home networks poses a challenge for security controls. We utilize Zscaler Internet Access to solve all of these challenges. The Zscaler agent is deployed to all end user equipment and provides us with controls like CASB, malware scanning, SSL inspection, firewall rules, and more. Zscaler Internet Access provides visibility to detect suspicious or malicious traffic, protection to prevent malware, and is highly customizable.

Pros

  • Cloud Access Security Broker to manage SaaS apps and prevent shadow IT.
  • Inline traffic inspection and controls.
  • Highly customizable policies.

Cons

  • Given all of the features Zscaler Internet Access bundles (firewall, CASB, URL filter, DLP, etc...) it makes the console somewhat cumbersome. Anyone planning to utilize Zscaler Internet Access should be prepared to invest time in training or seek out professional services.
  • In some cases, the app risk index ratings do not include enough criteria to effectively assess an applications risk exposure. Adding more criteria or allowing customers to add their own would be a welcomed feature.
  • Great value through consolidated model. Zscaler Internet Access combines features that traditionally have been sold as separate items. With Zscaler Internet Access, organizations gain all of these features with one product.
  • Excellent support. In addition to the support portal, Zscaler Internet Access customers can book sessions with Zscaler Security Engineers for a detailed review of their configurations. This service is included as part of the contract.
  • Modernize your Security/technology to limit reliance on traditional data centre/firewall appliances.
For end users, it is extremely easy to use. For administrators, there is a lot of features within the console and this requires time to learn. If you are looking for a rapid deployment and have never used Zscaler Internet Access before, I would recommend professional services. Once you have learned Zscaler's products, it is easy to operate.
Zscaler Internet Access and Netskope are fairly similar in features and both are good products. At our time of purchase, Zscaler Internet Access provided more features we required and the team provided better pricing.

Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps provides limited features when compared to Zscaler Internet Access; however, if you have an E5 license, it is worth looking into.

Zscaler builds their products around the concepts of Zero Trust Network Architecture. I would recommend Zscaler Internet Access to my peers and colleagues who are looking to mature their Information Security program and reduce risk exposure. With Zscaler Internet Access, and ZPA, organizations can limit exposure by passing traffic through a Zscaler secure service edge. This model allows all inbound/outbound traffic to be inspected and Security teams can apply inline controls. For example, files are scanned when downloaded and can be intercepted if malicious content is found. Alternatively, a DLP rule can scan files being uploaded and prevent sharing of sensitive materials to unknown websites.

Zscaler Internet Access delivers a lot of capabilities which would easily cost more if purchased separately (e.g. CASB, DLP, firewall, URL filtering, and more).
