The Google Cloud CDN is touted as a low cost option with tight integration with Google Cloud apps and services.
I don't have any direct experience with any of the other CDNs, so it's hard to say. Like any solution out there, each service will have its pros and cons. Some will fit your business needs more than others. Akamai is amongst the best and meets our business needs.
Akamai is a leader in CDN domain with adaptive media delivery and download delivery and it helps work by reducing the distance between your website and your target audience. It also provides 24X7 support services.
I am just getting into AWS at work and it will be difficult to supplant the incumbent Akamai solution as there is simply nothing wrong with it - from my point of view. I suspect we will be looking at integrating Akamai/AWS solutions in the future as the effort and or business …
Akamai offers sophisticated security and defense layers in addition to its content delivery network. Its focus on security is well known and beats offerings from AWS and Azure to punches. It redefined the cloud security market by extending its core offering.
We've used -- and considered -- a whole number of CDN offerings. The good news is that almost all of the CDN products on the market are terrific, and will pay for themselves via increased customer satisfaction and lower monthly hosting bills. For some cases, we're still more …
I have not evaluated or used any direct competitors for Akamai, so it's hard to say how it compares. All I know is that Akamai is very powerful and has now become an integral part of our existing set-up.
I haven't had much experience with other CDNs and to be honest I haven't heard of many more other than Akamai which just goes to show which one is the most trusted and proves to be the best. There are others out there, such as Cloudflare, that claim to provide a similar service …
CloudFlare and CloudFront are good for small sites where budgetary costs are the primary concern but Akamai Ion provides a new level of quality and performance.
CloudFlare is much easier to use. It is much cheaper and from our experience, it works so much better. The support staff at CloudFlare has always been helpful and will get on the phone when we need help. Also, CloudFlare helped us get set up on their platform in about an hour …
Akamai and CloudFlare are leaders in the CDN and Security sectors. Akamai has a very strong capability and execution in terms of enterprise services. Their offerings are are somewhat similar in some aspects but there is no products in the respective markets that compares to …
We have limited software developers and don't have the need for a big cloud service provider along with their costs. Google Cloud CDN brings to usr, reliability and brand familiarity. Google Cloud CDN also doesn't bother us with pitches or 1000 emails about the products. We …
AWS is definitely cheaper than the Google Cloud platform for VM instances. In terms of progression, it is clear that Google Cloud is making significant improvements to the platform. Google Cloud offers the option of a free tier on a wide range of their products. It gives you a …
It has More transparency in pricing as well as more services at a lower cost. The ability to stream video and other specialized features, and the ability to manage all projects can be accessed through a separate creative dashboard. The initial setup is very simple and you can …
We are already using Google Cloud for our infrastructure needs, so it felt like a natural extension to use. We were earlier using AWS CloudFront and some workloads were using Cloudflare. Though to centralise everything, we moved them to Google Cloud CDN. This helps in easier …
Fastly was having minimum spend system, when we started using it, and the pricing structure didn't fit our budget, so we decided to change the provider. Also, compared to Google Cloud CDN it was a little bit difficult to set up and use for beginners.
Google Cloud CDN works really well for a reliable CDN service, especially when used with other Google Services. It is highly reliable, efficient, and speedy. That said it can also be difficult to implement and lacks some support services found with other CDN services. It …
Akamai is a superior premium services offering if that's what you need from a CDN. For more typical use cases, we're often more often than not implementing MaxCDN, or integrated CDNs from cloud providers (e.g. CloudFront, Azure CDN, etc). If you find that Akamai's offerings are really what you need, and you are okay paying the premium, the services themselves are great. There's a reason they're used by major enterprises of all sizes, and used for hosting video content from the NFL, etc.
Google Cloud CDN is available globally and supports various load balancers available in different regions around the globe, so I find Google Cloud CDN as one of the best choices for CDN as it serves globally and it is really fast, safe, and secure. It might be not suitable for you if you do not have any technical background.
Caching is one of the greatest benefits that Akamai allows for, saving time, money and experiencing the user experience.
Knowing they provide DDOS and other attack protection gives you peace of mind.
How finely you can tune all of the different settings available to you, from blocking IPs, cache settings, headers, redirects and even handling error statuses .
There is not really an interface for managing rules directly, compared to market leaders, Google's implementation is probably strong on the technical side but for the average user it might be lacking. There are no advanced features which can be compared to what other leaders in the CDN sector are providing or they can be achieved but with high implementation cost and usage of other products in the Google Cloud suite
Their support documents are excellent and provide a lot of useful information for all their services. The only reason I didn't give them a 10 is that the time it takes for them to respond to an issue could be slightly faster.
I didn't have the need to use support from Google when I was either testing or setting up my website. Information was easily found by searching online if I needed to, and the options that I needed to install or enable were there on the setup page. Honestly, I was a former systems administrator so most of this stuff is not challenging for me.

We have limited software developers and don't have the need for a big cloud service provider along with their costs. Google Cloud CDN brings to usr, reliability and brand familiarity. Google Cloud CDN also doesn't bother us with pitches or 1000 emails about the products. We went and signed up for it, without dealing with a pushy salesperson.
