Overall Satisfaction with Google Cloud CDN

We are using Google Cloud CDN for serving static resources on our website. This has helped us to get faster response times across the globe and helps in making the website page speed score higher. Marketing website development team uses it and is happy with the overall functionality available in Google Cloud CDN.
  • Integrates easily with Google Cloud VMs.
  • Works with the Global Load Balancers as backend.
  • Worldwide POPs help in faster speed.
  • Unable to use any kind of code to show different content.
  • Absence of cloud workers as provided by Cloudfront, Cloudflare and Akamai.
  • No support for dynamic routing.
  • Higher page speed score results in higher SEO ranking.
  • Single place where all images, css and js is stored, so better manageability.
  • Centralised IAM policies through Google Cloud helps in faster access controls.
  • Unable to use it for dynamic code execution on edge.
We are already using Google Cloud for our infrastructure needs, so it felt like a natural extension to use. We were earlier using AWS CloudFront and some workloads were using Cloudflare. Though to centralise everything, we moved them to Google Cloud CDN. This helps in easier Access Control, and becomes simpler for our DevOps team to manage the buckets.

Would you buy Google Cloud CDN again?

Yes

It is well suited if you are looking for a traditional CDN which can serve static images, CSS, JS really fast. But if you are planning to use any of the new age features, or are trying to setup any kind of dynamic requests via the CDN, then Google Cloud CDN will not work well.
