Autodesk ShotGrid vs. Brandfolder vs. Frontify

ShotGrid seems to be well suited for a video team for reviews and project tracking. It may not be well suited for Project managers who need to see the bigger picture of the project.

It is so well suited for a cloud based DAM. It's loads so fast, works well in every browser. With remote work now it is so easily for our team to upload, organize, share, and view analytics on our assets. The best feature is the templating system which allows your designers to take what they design in Adobe Indesign and denote which areas are editable and it keeps the formatting, style, and fonts to the end user. The only other options on the market would require the designer to rebuild the design on a separate platform like Canvas. I wish the platform did more to help with handling videos. It doesn't display the runtime on a video, the specs, or play captions inline with the video. I also wish it would do media pushing to social media platforms.

Well suited to organization starting their journey of design system creation. It provides a ready to go foundation that requires minimum effort to set up and get going. It may be limited if scaling into thousands of design elements and multiple users - we have not tried at scale of more that 10's of users.

• Ordering comments made by different people by timecode/frame number, instead by the time and date the comment was made
• Being able to move an uploaded video from shots to assets and vice versa. Right now we have to re-upload but lose any comments made already if they were in the wrong place
• Custom filters are great but they could get a little confusing with all the options. Might help with guidelines or a place we could ask what we want and someone could answer with the best way to achieve those specific filters we want

• If you have a large collection of images, like we do, and you go 2 or 3 pages deep and select an image, then close the image, the collection snaps back to page 1. It's pretty frustrating.

Frontify is very easy to use and makes updating information a breeze. Frontify acts a central location to house assets and information for easy sharing. You can plug and play information and even white label the guide if desired

It's UI/UX is very robust. There's a lot of functionality but it's not very intuitive or intuitive. I spend time with new hires and contractors to overview ShotGrid for a day and revisit after a week or two. Questions always arise down the line

Wipster had limitations on video uploads, which was a major drawback. One thing we liked with Wipster was how we can see comments made in order on the timeline while watching the video.

Brandfolder has the best UI/UX for the end user and the administrator. The UI/UX is modern and not just a recreation of a folder system like old OS file systems. Brandfolder is so visual based and loads so quickly that makes it easy for users to find their assets quickly. The templating is totally unique when compared to other options on the market. The tagging system, duplicate detection, collections, and stacking files into an asset makes the platform efficient to manage and use

We've invested time building our own hosted interface, and recently begun exploring Figma for design system management too. The benefit of Frontify is it's easy public access. The downfall is integration with other systems required in the UX, Design, Product Management, and Development processes - something Figma supports well.

• We spend less time going back and forth with different stakeholders on shots and assets
• We don't have to pay services that only provided trial versions
• There is unlimited video uploading which was not the case with wiz
