Autodesk Tinkercad

[AutoCAD] Tinkercad is designed to be a free software that can handle the majority of situations that beginners would see in both modeling and 3-D printing environments. This would work excellently in young learners situation such as middle and high schools. However, it can be easily utilized by adults as a stepping stone beginner program to get the hang of modeling and printing tools. [Autodesk] Tinkercad should not be used by any professional organization that rely on more advanced tools and simulation aspects found in real software.

TurboCAD

It is fully capable of all the design work you can give it. I have even designed houses with it. Turbo CAD Pro Platinum is all I have used for going on 3 years now. I don't know if other versions can do or can't do. If you are a graphic designer, you would need to port the files to a higher end program to manipulate the colors and renderings. For engineering and in-house work it is perfect.

Pros

Autodesk Tinkercad

  • Tinkercad is a great baseline CAD program. This program is easy to implement and train people in.
  • After on a short period of time my students are able to create complex forms using Tinkercads pre-generated shapes and holes.
  • The Tinkercad provided projects aid in pushing the learning experience even further and reinforce the ideas that I train on and help my students explore the program before designing their own complex sculptural forms.

Cons

Autodesk Tinkercad

  • Tinkercad is an online tool. If the internet is off then Tinkercad stops.
  • Tinkercad is mostly for beginners and students of 3d design. Its capabilities have a limit. Besides Tinkercad touch screen device capabilities are also limited.
  • Rendering options are very limited, nearly none. There is no lighting feature. You could only give plain colours to your models.

TurboCAD

  • It would be good to have some standardized rendering, lighting and color schemes to make rendering faster. But once you learn how to place lights and adjust the shadows, it works fine. For some projects, I just want to send a color rendering faster.
  • Turbo CAD Pro Platinum is not for people who require an easy "intuitive" learning. You have to study the manual and the TC tutorials. There are plenty of free youtube videos to show how to do it, but it does take some learning.
  • This program has been around since the 1980s, as a good alternative to the high-end programs. Now it has expanded into a huge full-featured engineering program. Sometimes it has glitches with color rendering, and you have to work at it.

Alternatives Considered

Autodesk Tinkercad

It's easy to use interface, and its prebuild shapes features with easy modification stand it perfectly against all these.

I recommended this to every designer.

3DS Max is the one I use the most, the other two are good choices also. They have more online tutorials for helping learn them.

Return on Investment

Autodesk Tinkercad

  • Positive return on any productivity because its a free software
  • Negative return because it may take less time to just train on advanced software like autocad or solidworks
  • Very useful for training

TurboCAD

  • Having issues with new employees learning how to build our products. The images are extremely helpful, in terms of training and making sure the products are built to our high standards. Saves untold time, because our factory is in Holland and many employees speak different languages. The photo renderings, speak everyone's language.
  • Improved prototyping. We send parts out t0 be made by CNC and they come back nearly perfect for our needs. We have not used the 3D printing technology yet. Been waiting for that to develop better.
  • The only negative impact is that people are reluctant to learn it because it takes a certain degree of intelligence to understand it. But if you are an engineer, it is easy to understand.
