AWS Cloud9 vs. DbVisualizer

AWS Cloud9 is great for product engineering and coding where you must take time to pair program and code in a specific isolated environment. It is entirely cloud based so there's no worry about saving and data consistency. It is all hosted on the Amazon Web Services cloud. It is less appropriate for more general workflows that don't require a specific cloud instance.

Seamlessly querying PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle, SQL Server, and SQLite from one interface without switching tools. The intelligent autocomplete and schema browsing make it ideal for writing queries and understanding unfamiliar databases. Complex performance tuning, deep monitoring, and automated backup/recovery require specialized DBA tools. Performance degrades with tens or hundreds of thousands of rows; command-line tools or ETL solutions are better suited to bulk data processing.

• Great, fast interface - There is a large list of shortcuts that make development on this IDE an experience that can sometimes even compare to something native.
• Integrated debugging/troubleshooting - AWS Cloud9 has integrated debugging tools that are quite well-designed.
• Lambda integrations - Cloud9 allows you to instantly run and maintain Lambda functions. It's probably the best IDE for developing on AWS Lambda.

• Flexibility of SQL Commander for writing scripts.
• Great support for working with JSON data in recent updates.

• Table relationship visualization is very helpful.
• The tree view is well organized in how it splits out schemas.

• According to the project that is being executed it can become slow.
• It does not have the basic text manipulators.
• Shared terminals sometimes take a while to display.

• Small, but noticeable: it would be nice to be able to highlight just one column of a data output for copy/paste by clicking on the column header (a feature some of us are accustomed to from SQL Server Management Studio)
• Is there an ability to bulk import an excel file to a table in a connected SQL Server in DbVis? If so, I haven't figured that out yet. I still largely use Microsoft SSMS to import data to our team's personal SQL Server, but can easily query that server via DbVis)
• (I really don't have any major complaints - our company has tried to steer users toward DBeaver for YEARS, which I cannot stand. DbVis knocks the beaver out of the water)

We never had problems with it. It is able to connect to all data sources (Oracle, Informix, DB2, SQL Server) that we currently use.

I rate AWS Cloud9 a 7/10 for usability. It is seamless browser access and pre-configured terminal simplify setup for cloud-native tasks. However, the lack of offline capabilities and its legacy status compared to tools like CodeCatalyst hinder the experience. It remains functional, yet feels increasingly dated in early 2026

I use this tool for several hours each day, spanning many years in various projects. It's wide support for various database types while keeping consistency within the UI for each is important when working with various databases day in and day out.

Customer support is managed by the Cloud support team. I won't be able to comment on details, but it's fast.

S3 is a great service for storing unstructured data. It is cheap and us an user we don't have to care about scaling. Amazon S3 is a managed service. We use it for avery simple projects in our organization.

DBeaver is used by some of our customers. We find it clunky and unintuitive. One customer used TOAD for his Oracle installation (15+ years ago). We did not like it at all. When researching for a universal database tool some 20 years ago, we found dbvis and never looked back. We have not found a need to look for other soulutions so we never checked others.

• This software has been really useful for our company since thanks to the fact that you can work together with other colleagues in the same code, it is much easier to advance in the development of projects and thus be able to make your delivery in a much shorter time.
• Because it provides all the necessary tools to develop projects, there is a great saving of time and costs.
• It is easy to use so any user can use it and this makes it possible to streamline each project much faster and more if you do not necessarily have to be in the company to advance in them, and this is thanks to the fact that it can be used from anywhere with internet access.

• The pricing for DbVisualizer is fair.
• The tool also succeeds in non-functional areas I find important, such as being able to install and/or run without requiring administrator privileges on Windows.
• Has capability to generate diagrams and models from existing databases which is very helpful in reverse engineering.
