End-to-end encryption is an amazing feature because we use IoT to connect to various devices in order to gather data/ stats in real-time. We're able to publish solutions with ease and at a faster rate because of AWS IoT Core. However, its inability to interact with other IoT tools is a big con that I would like them to improve upon.

    Zoho Creator

I have a software web app development background, so we considered hand-rolling an in-house MYSQL application for our needs. But, programming a home-grown web app also requires a dedicated programmer and some deep thought regarding specifications. Within just a couple of hours, I developed a tool in Zoho Creator (easily expandable) that accomplished the same tasks. It saved us a considerable amount of frontend and backend programming. Nothing can truly fit EVERY need, so some extremely specialized applications might find Zoho Creator limiting, but for the bulk of normal, everyday database management, Zoho Creator is an excellent tool. The fringe cases where Zoho Creator's off-the-shelf abilities may not be enough could be addressed in a number of creative ways, be it linking to outside data or using their custom programming language to hand-code specific needs. It is very, very powerful. The only place where it may not be appropriate is if someone needed extensive front-end customization (although data can still be pulled using its API for display externally). It may be too powerful for extremely basic needs. Overall, however, it is hard to find fault with this system.

    Pros

    AWS IoT Core

    • AWS IoT Core integrates power analytics and an AI solution for sensor data processing.
    • Great protocol support including HTTPs and MQTT required to connect resource constraint IoT devices to cloud
    • High security standards during data transmission
    • Scalability and a great user community

    Zoho Creator

    • The ease of creating data collecting forms. Anything from creating a form to import all your old excel documents to creating a mobile on-site application where you can input data directly into the app. For a company like us this can help to eliminate the pen and paper approach to recording data.
    • Reporting features are excellent. Slicing and dicing the data from your forms to create any report is possible. Think of it has filters on steroids. The ability to combine data from different forms is a huge plus.
    • Dashboards! Zoho Creator has so much depth to it that it's easy for one to get lost if they are not as familiar with Creator, for example an exuctive or decision making manager. This is where dashboards come in. Admins can build intuitive and smart dashboards that combine all the relevant KPI's that a manager needs to see.

    Cons

    AWS IoT Core

    • Ability to integrate with Ethercalc software solution
    • Ability to introduce NFC toolchains and systems which could be utilized in iot modular gateway solutions like drones
    • Ability to reduce latency as the solution scales is very much needed
    • Hybrid solution which can integrate other existing iot solutions into AWS iot core

    Zoho Creator

    • A bit tricky for integrations with 3rd party software.
    • Layout customizations very limited.
    • A bit expensive when you need to give access to many users.

After adopting AWS IoT Core in our company it became clear that the whole platform was designed with usability in mind. It not only refers to IoT Core, but also applies to the remaining Amazon services. What we like the most is the fact that every phase from provisioning to maintaining provides great level of usability.

I gave 7 because it is better for internal use and internal solutions. If you need something to deliver to your clients (you will give them access to it), then you will have to work hard to give the layout a better look, and not use the using the standard template layout, which it's possible to do, but it will need an extra work.

In an earlier comment, I mentioned Zoho's excellent uptime. I have been using the system for over 6 years, and have experienced only momentary outages, and of those, only a hand full over the years. It is extremely reliable

I give it this rating because the support is always there if we need help, but they aren't always able to help us with our problems and sometimes have to transfer us to another support technician. So overall, the support for AWS IoT is pretty good and I am very satisfied with it.

I recommend Zoho Creator very often. A lot of companies go big earlier than they need to and spend way too much on SalesForce & Marketo. I worked for a small company with some limited budget that pivoted to sell it's product to the Enterprise. Zoho Creator was incredibly easy to set up, intuitive to use, and contains all the most essential features that most users need and seek in SalesForce. We integrated with MailChimp & Unbounce and were able to be incredibly useful in acquiring leads, nurturing them, and tracking pipeline in Zoho Creator. Our small sales team found it very easy to use and loved it.

    Alternatives Considered

    AWS IoT Core

Azure IoT service provides more or less the same services as compared to AWS IoT core, however the costing of AWS lead us to continued usage of IoT core over Azure IoT services. Also, considering our existing technology stack is on AWS, it was a natural selection for better integration and ease of use.

We use Zoho Survey and while it is better than other similar 'Off the shelf' products it is not in the same league as Creator.

Zoho is incredibly versatile. Much thought was put in to the way the platform functions. I've yet to face a situation where Zoho would not be able to do what I needed. That being said, because of its power, it can also be a bit intimidating technically. Simple needs are simple. More complex needs are ... more complex! Overall, it's a powerful, robust platform

    AWS IoT Core

    • Gives confidence to prototype iot solutions across lots of devices in little time
    • Ability to meet requirements for managing a variety of communication protocols
    • Learning iot analytics and visualization for faster insights enablement
    • Onboarding devices and managing quickly without building inhouse solutions

    • We really have not tracked the savings in a dollar amount, but our overall ability to have a birds eye view of all of our courses and classes at any moment has been a great tool. And we save time when we need information about courses or classes because the reports are there and ready when needed.
