datapine

For someone like me, who had no real experience in using BI tools before, datapine suits quite well. Most of the features I was able to explore on my own, and their support was always really helpful (as well as the tutorials). In general, I was most impressed from their dashboard features. If you look for a software with detailed statistical analysis options, you maybe need to take another (additional) tool. My main use-case was the visualization and reporting of the analysis results, not the statistical analysis itself. This usually was done before with SPSS.

OpenText Magellan

Using OpenText Magellan for complex statements does not necessitate any interaction from users. It has AI-enabled predictive analytics and AI-enabled machine learning capabilities. Legal Personnel Documents establish it even more secure for sensitive information to be stored here. The scorecard without the Birt360 module provides only rudimentary documents and data visualization, and it would be difficult for non-technical users to use the more advanced features.

Pros

datapine

  • Intuitive user interface, especially within the analyzer (drag & drop).
  • Dashboard templates helped to create visually appealing dashboards.
  • Many different reporting options.
  • Customer support is really helpful.

OpenText Magellan

  • In terms of extensibility this is the best reporting platform we have seen. You can build very sophisticated reports with different data sources, and extend the basic functionality with javscript code
  • Securing the BI system is also a strength and the system can be configured relatively easily.
  • Reports can be available on mobile devices
  • Good Javascript embedding framework does not require the site to be built in java

Cons

datapine

  • Some advanced functions need SQL knowledge.

OpenText Magellan

  • The report designer can be unstable at times.
  • The reporting engine tends to have memory leaks with certain types of massive-data reporting.
  • The report graphics don't have the sexiest appeal (e.g. Glossy feel, animated output)
  • Some extensibility is extremely difficult to get to without purchasing a license (e.g. Setting a simple flag so that HTML outputs in compressed mode requires either creating your own emitter or going the paid route)

I am no longer working for the company that was using Actuate but I believe they would continue to use it because the stitching costs would be to high. It would require a complete rewrite of the reports and the never version of Actuate (BIRT) even required an almost complete report rewrite

Easy to use, Magellan cubes connect to a wide range of data sources and support a wide range of databases. Multiple data imports and scripts for automated data imports are simple with this tool. We often combine data from various sources seamlessly, and still, there is room for improvement in the connections between data sources. In addition, there are limitations on the types of data cubes that can use.

Engineers, stakeholders, and engineers still rely on communication for collaboration; without iServer and Birt360 modules, the reporting capabilities of basic scorecards are compelled. Scheduling push report schedules is also a technical undertaking. Our primary use of Magellan is to format the output to the user’s specifications.

OpenText Magellan

OpenText Magellan can produce reports that are much more elaborate than PowerBI, which is ideal for users that just need to see a report. On the other hand, PowerBI seems to be better at allowing users to interact with data.

OpenText Magellan

  • Actuate can handle 50 to 60 sub reports inside a report very well.
  • Dynamically creating the datasource, chart, graph, reports are the main advantages. We can do any level of drilling, and can create a performance matrix dashboard efficiently.
