Fiserv
Great for financial institutions. Integrates well with the Fiserv Premier suite. Easily imports bank reports that are generated from the Fiserv Core banking system. Would like to see more dynamic of purging documents automatically. Would like to see more functionality that is native to the Fiserv Premier application rather than having to purchase additional modules to expand its functionality.

IBM
Well Suited Scenarios: Regulatory Compliance: IBM FileNet Content Manager is ideal for industries with strict regulatory requirements, such as healthcare and finance. It helps organizations securely manage and retain documents, ensuring compliance with data retention policies. Enterprise Document Management: Large organizations that deal with extensive document volumes benefit from FileNet's document capture, indexing, and search capabilities. It simplifies document management across departments. Less Appropriate Scenarios: Small Businesses: For small businesses with limited document management needs, FileNet may be overly complex and expensive. Simpler, more cost-effective solutions may be a better fit.Simple Document Storage: Organizations primarily seeking basic cloud-based document storage without extensive workflow automation or compliance requirements might find FileNet's capabilities excessive for their needs.

Cons
Fiserv
  • More refined configuration of when to purge documents (ex. would like to see the ability to more dynamically purge documents such as the ability to purge documents x number of years after a loan has been paid in full).
  • Include functionality that is native to the application without having to pay for additional modules (ex. ability to configure automatic importing of PDFs without using an index file requires a separate PDF Data Input Filter module).
  • Would like to see the ability to automatically populate the Institution number in Director Unity Client.
  • Would like to have seen Fiserv move off Internet Explorer faster than it has. Workflows will only appear as an option in Web Director if used in Internet Explorer.

It's a great tool for our legacy system however the implementation, management time and lack of a niche provided by IBM makes it a difficult tool to recommend in a fast-paced market.

Alternatives Considered
Fiserv
We selected Director because it easily integrates with Fiserv Premier core banking system. We have been using Fiserv Director for over 12 years. We haven't evaluated alternatives since moving to Fiserv Director. We did use Metaviewer prior to Fiserv Director which didn't have nearly as much functionality as Director.
