FreePBX vs. Proficonf (discontinued)

FreepBX is a great product if you are able and willing to manage your own PBX system. It requires some know-how to set up but once running, it works very well. There is a large community that helps answer questions, but it isn't "plug and play" so you will need to be able to research and troubleshoot your own issues (or pay for support).

Whenever you need to speak with someone who is not an experienced internet-user, Proficonf is the best. I mean there's a big green button you need to press. Sometimes you need to put your name. That's it. Even the old folks can handle it well. Also, we find Proficonf surprisingly good working with a non-stable internet connection. I mean, of course, quality is decreasing (they say it's adaptive), but the video remains smooth. Even in those cases, Proficonf has probably the smoothest video among all video conferencing services.

• Available from mobile phones
• Bunch of presenting tools

• Phone integration/firmware can be clunky and has a learning curve.
• Relies on crowd sourcing information as expected for open-source.
• Requires some moderate expertise for setup.

• They need to fix their iOS.
• Maybe more features would be good.
• Separate service for webinars.

It works well, there isn't much more to say. You can get a free ($0) phone system packed with features, then if you need even more features then the cost is extremely cheap, and it works well. On top of this, you have complete freedom in the PBX to do as you wish, and debug and see everything

3CX may be slightly easier for a novice to use, but FreePBX completely beats it when you remove that factor. You can do anything you want, and debug and see everything. Now with AI its even easier to debug and learn how the PBX works if you hit an issue

Proficonf proved to be a bit better than appear.in in terms of video quality and features. Zoom and Skype weren't any good for us. Proficonf is completely web-based, so it doesn't require a download like Skype or Zoom. Proficonf has much better video quality, there's no competition on that subject. And it's so much easier to use. However Skype is also a messenger, so we are still sometimes using it.

• Drastically reduced our direct telephony cost as we don't need to have the hardware and support.
• Very functional and added new functionality that we did not have previously.
