Freshservice is really good at standardizing IT ticketing across all our clubs and locations. It's been very effective for global tasks like license provisioning, working with smaller IT teams across our organization/globe, and it's been very easy to use when provisioning access for HR requested accounts. The workflows and automation features have been very useful as our company scales. Without these tools, it would be too tedious now. It's a very flexible platform, which is why we haven't gotten rid of it at any stage of our IT department's evolution.

TeamCity is very quick and straightforward to get up and running. A new server and a handful of agents could be brought online in easily under an hour. The professional tier is completely free, full-featured, and offers a huge amount of growth potential. TeamCity does exceptionally well in a small-scale business or enterprise setting.

    Pros
    Freshworks Inc
    • A robust support portal that's easily configured by a power user, but also supports developer level customization.
    • The workflow authoring tool is a very easy drag and drop. For more experienced admins, a robust amount of logic and actions.
    • Dozens of integrations out of the box, including most all mainstream business software.

    • TeamCity provides a great integration with git, especially Bitbucket.
    • When a new code release (build) fails TeamCity has a great tool for investigation and troubleshooting.
    • TeamCity provides a user-friendly interface. While some technical knowledge is required to use TeamCity, the design helps simply things.

    Cons
    Freshworks Inc
    • A "set pending until" a certain date feature would be nice, so we can close it after there is no response
    • Adding an additional module (to purchase) for server monitoring. Like a Pulseway RMM tool
    • Some kind of task planner with tasks like Microsoft Planner

    • The customization is still fairly complex and is best managed by a dev support team. There is great flexibility, but with flexibility comes responsibility. It isn't always obvious to a developer how to make simple customizations.
    • Sometimes the process for dealing with errors in the process isn't obvious. Some paths to rerunning steps redo dependencies unnecessarily while other paths that don't are less obvious.

We are pretty invested in Freshservice right now and have integrated it pretty heavily into our environment, so it would be hard to move away from it. For the most part, we are happy with Freshservice and the ease of use it gives us in managing tickets through the system. The only complaint we've had is customer service.

    Usability
    Freshworks Inc
The UI design of Freshservice is simple and intuitive. You don't have to be a technical expert to navigate your way into the different pages/modules available. There are no buttons that are hidden in plain sight. Even our HR team required little to no help when they started using Freshservice.

    Reliability and Availability
    Freshworks Inc
In our 3 years of using Freshservice, we've experienced several outages in the first 2 years. There were times where it only took minutes or hours but there are also times where it took a few days. Each time, Freshservice remained transparent and constantly communicated their progress. We haven't had one in the past year which indicates Freshservice have improved their servers.

Pages load quickly but internet connectivity can also play a big role. Integrations doesn't affect the performance but internet connectivity may be a big factor. As a company with most employees working from home, different network providers from different areas/countries can have different experiences. Search load time needs improvement.

TeamCity runs really well, even when sharing a small instance with other applications. The user interface adequately conveys important information without being overly bloated, and it is snappy. There isn't any significant overhead to build agents or unit test runners that we have measured.

    Support Rating
    Freshworks Inc
Support from OEM is decent but needs improvement. Sometimes OEM also needs to understand the criticality of the customer and help as an Ad-hoc, which is somewhat lacking at Feshservice. Although the normal support team is well-equipped and helps according to the matrix, if something critical for the partner or customer requires immediate attention, it still goes through the L1-L2-L3 levels, which wastes a lot of time.

Creating the correct groups for the stakeholders and enabling the right notifications are one of the most important aspect of the implementation. Creating Change templates will also help in the long run and it's a good practice to create one, if applicable.

    Alternatives Considered

Freshservice and 4me are, in my eyes, both modern and capable ITSM tools, although they may cater to different audiences. I would say 4me is more focused on multi-tenant setups and larger enterprises, but I think Freshservice prioritizing simplicity and speed makes our use case in a single tenant setup with 300 employees and 4 IT workers an ideal solution.

TeamCity is a great on-premise Continuous Integration tool. Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) is a hosted SAAS application in Microsoft's Cloud. VSTS is a Source Code Repository, Build and Release System, and Agile Project Management Platform - whereas TeamCity is a Build and Release System only. TeamCity's interface is easier to use than VSTS, and neither have a great deployment pipeline solution. But VSTS's natural integration with Microsoft products, Microsoft's Cloud, Integration with Azure Active Directory, and free, private, Source Code repository - offer additional features and capabilities not available with Team City alone.

    Contract Terms and Pricing Model
    Freshworks Inc
Freshservice allows flexibility with contract terms and pricing model. Monthly and annual payments are allowed. The unit pricing needs a bit of improvement. It would be great if they offer unit pricing per capability instead of one pricing for all the capabilities. Small businesses have different use cases and not every agent needs all the modules available.

    Scalability
    Freshworks Inc
We were able to scale easily across multiple departments. As our company keeps growing, we have not needed to change anything in terms of scaling since we started using Freshservice. There were no changes to the admin and end-user experience from when we were a 1,000-employee company vs to our current head count of 2,000+.

    • We had no ticketing system at all so we had no idea of the workload, we now do
    • We have been able to go from nothing to seeing workload to identifying areas for improvement by having the metrics
    • We have lowered MTTR every month since turning on fresh service
    • We have increased 1st all resolution every month
    • We have been able to start talking about real SLA's with the business

    • TeamCity has greatly improved team efficiency by streamlining our production and pre-production pipelines. We moved to TeamCity after seeing other teams have more success with it than we had with other tools.
    • TeamCity has helped the reliability of our product by easily allowing us to integrate unit testing, as well as full integration testing. This was not possible with other tools given our corporate firewall.
    • TeamCity's ability to include Docker containers in the pipeline steps has been crucial in improving our efficiency and reliability.
